Partner promotions among the United Kingdom's 50 largest firms rose by 38 percent this year over last year, reports U.K. publication Legal Week, citing growing market confidence and a series of trans-Atlantic mergers as helping to drive the increase.

Legal Services of New Jersey went to the state Legislature this week, asking for an increase in its proposed appropriation for the next fiscal year. And New Jersey Superior Court Judge Glenn Grant said the judiciary will seek an increase in filing fees to help fund Legal Services and to implement an e-filing system.
