In a 6-2 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court today affirmed a 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that the state of Texas did not waive immunity from a prisoner's religious freedom suit seeking monetary damages because it accepts federal funding. Former Texas Solicitor General James Ho argued the case at the high court on behalf of the state when he was at the Texas Office of the Attorney General. | |

A former client is accusing Andrews Kurth of malpractice, negligence and breach of contract in a suit filed April 13 in state court in Houston. In a 24-page petition, Walton Houston Galleria Office LP, a Houston-based real estate investment firm backed by billionaire Neil Bluhm, claims Andrews Kurth neglected to inform the company about a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into another one of the firm's clients, R. Allen Stanford. | |

Corporate Counsel Women of Color, a nonprofit organization that fosters diversity in Fortune 1,000 law departments, has announced a report on how women of color are faring in those companies. And despite the obstacles faced by respondents, CCWC founder and CEO Laurie Robinson says the results were surprisingly refreshing.
