PHIL Images From This Week   0019370 10/02/2015 08:00 AM EDT Created in 2009, the inspiration for this photograph, as described by Oscar Tarrago, M.D., M.P.H., C.H.E.S., of ATSDR, Division of Toxicology and Environmental Medicine, was "when a division of ATSDR moved to building 2400 at Century Center in 2003, it had a big problem with tobacco smoking in the entryway of the building. Smokers from buildings 2200 and 2400, would gather at the corner of the parking deck that led to building 2400, in front of the elevator, making it a nuisance for all."   0016377 10/01/2015 08:00 AM EDT This anteroposterior x-ray revealed bilateral pulmonary infiltrates in a patient with Legionnaires' disease (LD). See PHIL 17299, for a chest x-ray depict this patient's condition three days later, and 5156, for an x-ray that had been taken 5 days later, giving you some idea as to the progression of this patient's illness.   0014437 09/30/2015 08:00 AM EDT Set atop this white ceramic serving plate were three baby carrots along-side a number of fresh celery stalks, which were all still moist after having been thoroughly washed. Carrots are an excellent source of Vitamin A, which is necessary for healthy eyesight, skin, growth, and also aids our bodies in resisting infection.   0018273 09/29/2015 08:00 AM EDT This image depicts U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer, Nina Ahmad, as she was in the process of swabbing a boa constrictor in order to test for the presence of Salmonella Cotham, during a 2014 multistate outbreak of human Salmonella cases. Cotham is a serotype, or serovar of Salmonella enterica, which is a distinct variation within this specie of bacteria based on the organism's surface antigens.   0019686 09/28/2015 08:00 AM EDT This image depicts Pakistani Field Epidemiology Training Program (PFETP) resident, Dr. Khushal Khan Kasi, talking with the father of two young children, while his colleague, Dr. Ayaz Chohan was checking the children, in order to see if they displayed the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination scar that would indicate their immunization against tuberculosis.
