The Southern District of Texas is the busiest district in the nation when it comes to the number of suits filed on the federal government's behalf against people who default on student loans. Now, a program used in the Southern District that lets private firms represent Uncle Sam in that pursuit is coming to the Northern District of Texas. M.H. The high pleading standard recently set by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit for whistleblower cases against companies that falsely label products as patented is weeding cases out of dockets across the country. The court's unanimous order has thinned out at least 18 cases so far, according to lawyers involved in and watching the cases. The BP Lubricants ruling is a significant development for false marking cases, said Rod Thompson, San Francisco litigator. | |
