Environmental Crime Fighter Enjoys Renewed Enforcement Resources Top
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey Geis has seen her past eight environmental crime cases end with convictions, with prison time in all six cases where it was sought. Both Geis' boss and Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. have a keen interest in environmental enforcement, so enthusiasm and resources for such cases are on the upswing. Says Geis with a laugh: "I'm trendy now."
 
ABA Wants Proof of Native American Status From Aspiring Lawyers Top
Between 1990 and 2000, 2,600 Native Americans graduated from ABA-accredited law schools, but according to the U.S. Census, the number of Native American attorneys in the U.S. increased by just 200 during that time. Now, the ABA is taking steps to address the concern that some law school applicants are falsely reporting their heritage.
 
Kirkland Grabs Skadden, Latham Partners for Hong Kong Push Top
In a major Asia push, Kirkland & Ellis has recruited Nicholas Norris and Dominic Tsun, the Hong Kong-based co-heads of Skadden's Asia corporate practice, and Skadden corporate partner Li-Chien Wong. Former corporate practice vice-chair David Zhang and partner John Otoshi from Latham & Watkins' Hong Kong office are also said to be joining Kirkland.

CMS Cameron McKenna is set to spin off its entire 15-lawyer immigration practice to corporate immigration specialist firm Fragomen. The team includes CMS' highly rated immigration head Caron Pope. As of the Oct. 1 move, CMS will use Fragomen as its preferred U.K. provider for all immigration legal advice and related services.
