| A jury in federal court in Beaumont has awarded $16 million to a man allegedly beaten by deputies. The plaintiff claimed that deputies at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility beat him while he was being processed and then again right before he was released on bond. In another case, a jury in state district court in Harris County has awarded $10.7 million to the family of a man who allegedly was prescribed a fatal combination of painkillers by a doctor with a history of trouble with the state medical board. | |
