| Google Hit With $5M in Damages for Infringing Open Source Patent |
| Google has taken a hit from a so-called patent troll. A federal jury in Texas recently ordered Google to pay $5 million in damages for infringing a Linux-related patent held by Texas-based Bedrock Computer Technologies. Bedrock had sued Google in 2006, alleging infringement of a 1997 patent that describes "a method and apparatus for performing storage and retrieval," and Bedrock said the companyhad infringed it by using versions of the Linux operating system kernel on their servers. |
